Helvilux – Code of Journalistic Ethics

1. Truth Above All

We report what is true, not what is convenient.
Every fact must be verified, cross-checked, and supported by reliable evidence. When information is uncertain, we say so clearly. When we make a mistake, we correct it swiftly and transparently.

2. Independence From Power

We do not serve political parties, corporations, institutions, or private interests.
Journalists at Helvilux must remain free from influence, pressure, and manipulation, whether it comes from the state, business, or individuals. No story is softened or buried to please anyone.

3. Holding Power Accountable

We investigate decisions, behaviours, and actions of those in public office or positions of authority.
We protect the public’s right to know, even when the truth is inconvenient, uncomfortable, or unpopular. Silence is complicity; journalism is not.

4. Respect for the Public

We write for the people who live in Luxembourg and beyond, all backgrounds, all origins.
No discrimination, humiliation, or personal attack is acceptable. Criticism targets actions, policies, and decisions, never a person’s identity. We treat victims and vulnerable communities with dignity.

5. Transparency With Our Readers

We explain how we obtained information when possible, unless it risks exposing confidential sources.
Conflicts of interest must be declared. Sponsored content must be labelled. Behind every article stands a clear intention: inform, not mislead.

6. Protection of Sources

Sources who share information in the public interest deserve absolute confidentiality.
We defend the right to anonymous reporting and whistleblowing — especially when exposing corruption, abuse, and wrongdoing.

7. No Manipulation, No Distortion

Photographs, documents, and data must not be altered in a way that misleads.
Context matters: quotes cannot be twisted, statistics cannot be cherry-picked, and narratives cannot be shaped to fit a pre-decided agenda.

8. Clear Separation of News and Opinion

Investigative reports, news articles, columns, and opinion pieces must be labelled accordingly.
Readers should always know whether they are consuming facts, analysis, or commentary.

9. Privacy With Public Interest in Mind

We respect personal privacy unless a situation involves public interest, wrongdoing, or harm to the community.
Public figures are scrutinised more closely, but still treated with fairness.

10. Courage and Responsibility

Journalism often requires saying what others avoid.
Helvilux commits to reporting without fear, without favour, and without surrendering to censorship or intimidation.
But with that freedom comes responsibility: every article must be accurate, fair, and written with integrity.
